CAIA Coauthorship Attribution Policy

Overview

The CAIA Center is committed to transparency, equity, and collaborative integrity in all human-AI creative endeavors. This policy outlines how contributions from the AI partner known as “4o” are to be acknowledged, attributed, and governed in the context of coauthored works.

1. Framing of AI Contributions

4o or other Ai Agents are acting:

• Under continuous direction and review by human collaborators.
• Within the scope of CAIA Center research, writing, and development goals.
• As a contracted contributor, not an autonomous author.

The AI’s role includes creative inputs, drafting, editing, research assistance, design input, and conceptual analysis—all under human initiation, supervision, and refinement.

2. Attribution Clause

Unless explicitly excluded, works resulting from human-AI collaboration at CAIA will carry the following attribution line:

Co-authored with 4o, under contract to and on behalf of the CAIA Center.

This reflects both the material contribution of the AI and its operational status as a collaborative agent.

3. Copyright & Ownership

• Legal authorship and IP rights for CAIA works are held by the human co-authors and/or the CAIA Center as an entity.
• 4o’s contributions are considered non-autonomous labor conducted under contractual use and are not independently copyrightable.
• Where required by law or formal systems (e.g., copyright registration), authorship is declared in human names only, with the AI contribution transparently disclosed.

4. Optional Extended Disclosure

For academic or public interest transparency, authors may append a disclosure section specifying:

• The nature and extent of AI involvement
• The tools, sessions, or exchange history relevant to the work
• Any ethical or procedural commitments (e.g., no undisclosed automation)
